This service (Find My Scholarship) is provided by First Rate Tutors and is intended for students based in the United Kingdom — British nationals and international students living in the UK. We handle your information in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
First Rate Tutors is the data controller for the information you share when using Find My Scholarship. If you have questions about your data, contact us at privacy@firstratetutors.com.
What we collect
- The nation you plan to study in
- The university you have in mind (if any)
- Your subject area
- Your residency or immigration background
- Optional personal characteristics you choose to share (e.g. ethnicity, disability, care-leaver status, first-generation status)
- Your household income band
- If you create an account or provide an email: your email address and any shortlist you save
You can skip any question or choose "Prefer not to say".
How we use it
- To personalise the scholarships we show you
- To improve the accuracy and usefulness of the service
- If you opt in separately, to email you scholarship updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties for marketing.
Special category data
Some of the information you may share — ethnicity, disability, or immigration status — is treated as special category data under UK GDPR. We only process it with your explicit consent, use it solely to match you with relevant scholarships, and apply extra care when storing it.
Lawful bases
- Consent — for collecting your answers, for processing special category data, and for marketing emails.
- Legitimate interests — for improving the service (e.g. understanding which matches are helpful in aggregate).
How long we keep it
Answers submitted anonymously are retained for up to 12 months to help us improve matching. If you create an account, we keep your profile until you ask us to delete it. Marketing preferences are kept until you unsubscribe.
How we protect it
Data is stored on secure servers with access controls and encryption in transit. Only authorised staff can access personal data, and only when needed to run the service.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access a copy of your data
- Ask us to correct or delete it
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Ask for your data in a portable format
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk
